Our Partners in Virginia

We've worked with the following partners in this state to expand access to reproductive health care.

Current Partners

State partner
State Infrastructure Project - Virginia

NIRH works with a cohort of organizations in Virginia on a long-term proactive abortion policy and culture shift project to develop and advance an abortion rights vision, engage a new and broad base of supporters, and reduce shame and stigma by publicly promoting the affirmative value of abortion in women's lives. This project includes the VA Latina Advocacy Network, Pro-Choice Virginia, Progress Virginia, and Whole Woman's Health Alliance.

State partner
Pro-Choice Virginia

Both NIRH and the NIRH Action Fund have worked for many years to turn the tide in Virginia to secure protections for abortion access and advance reproductive health care generally. After a significant shift in the composition of the Virginia legislature in 2017, NIRH worked with Pro-Choice Virginia (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia) to pass legislation to remove some of the most significant and onerous restrictions on abortion in the commonwealth. The coalition, which included Progress Virginia and the Virginia Latina Advocacy Network, passed a slate of measures expanding access to abortion, including the Reproductive Health Protection Act in 2020, and expansion of insurance coverage for abortion in 2021. NIRH is currently working with Pro-Choice Virginia as part of a cohort of organizations in Virginia on a long-term initiative to develop and advance an abortion rights vision, engage a new and broad base of supporters, and reduce shame and stigma by publicly promoting the affirmative value of abortion.

State partner
Progress Virginia

After a significant shift in the composition of the Virginia legislature, NIRH supported Progress Virginia and Pro-Choice Virginia, along with the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition in 2020 to pass legislation to remove some of the most significant and onerous restrictions on abortion in the commonwealth. The coalition built public support for abortion access and for the Reproductive Health Protection Act specifically, engaging the media, and working with lawmakers as they moved forward to enact this law in 2020. NIRH is also workin with Progress Virginia as part of a cohort of organizations in Virginia on a long-term initiative to develop and advance an abortion rights vision, engage a new and broad base of supporters, and reduce shame and stigma by publicly promoting the affirmative value of abortion.
