Current Partners

Local partner
Kentucky Health Justice Network

NIRH and the Kentucky Health Justice Network (KHJN) continue to partner on the Louisville Safety Zone campaign to establish a safety zone that will protect patients and clinic staff in the only city offering abortion care in the state. Because Louisville is so critical to abortion access in the region, it attracts a large crowd of extremist anti-abortion protestors who add to the financial, transportation, and other logistical and legal barriers that patients must already navigate to access abortion care. These dangers are only compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, NIRH and KHJN also acknowledge that public safety at abortion clinics is a matter of community care, given persistent police violence in communities across the country and particularly in Louisville.

Local partner
Louisville Safety Zone

EMW Women’s Surgical Center is currently the only abortion clinic in Kentucky and a major target of harassment and violence. NIRH is working with the Louisville Safety Zone campaign, comprising lawyers, clinic escorts, clergy members, and local abortion funders, to establish a safety ordinance to create a narrow pathway to the clinic entrance that will protect the rights of patients as well as protesters. The campaign is educating residents and local leaders, building public support, and working towards passage of this ordinance through the Louisville Metro Council. In 2018, NIRH supported the Louisville Safety Zone campaign to raise community awareness and galvanize public support.
