The upfront cost of stocking LARC devices is one of the greatest barriers all health care providers face to offering same-day access to LARC. While programs exist to address this challenge, many are not open to abortion providers. Supply constraints that limit same-day access to LARC are particularly hard on women living in large, rural states like Montana, who must often travel hundreds of miles for any reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood of Montana and Blue Mountain Clinic are conducting research on potential models for an efficient and sustainable LARC supply chain that would serve all independent and affiliated abortion clinics in the state. Based on their findings, they will work with NIRH to develop a pilot to increase access to same-day, peri- and post-abortion LARC insertion for patients that choose this method. This partnership is a collaboration with the Abortion Care Network (ACN).
