Statement by National Institute for Reproductive Health President Andrea Miller
“Today, Senate Republicans released yet another version of a harmful and dangerous Obamacare repeal bill that severely limits access to birth control and abortion services. After weeks deliberating and revising a bill that would have left 22 million uninsured by 2026, this new bill is equally egregious.
“The latest bill targets underserved communities, stifles access to reproductive health care, and allows states to opt out of maternity coverage, which could limit access to care for new mothers. This bill would undo the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, which vastly improved women’s health care and enabled access to birth control for 55 million women .
“With reproductive rights in extreme danger at the federal level, activism at the state and local level is more crucial than ever. The National Institute for Reproductive Health will continue to arm states and cities across the country with the tools they need to pass legislation that safeguards access to abortion and contraception, regardless of what happens in Washington, D.C. The time for resistance and the fight to preserve access to reproductive rights is now. NIRH strongly urges U.S. Senators to oppose this latest destructive health care bill that will push health care out of reach for millions of women who rely on it.”
