Rhode Island

NIRH is joining with SISTA Fire to address the systemic racism and maternal health crises faced by Black womxn, womxn of color, and their children in Rhode Island, including the particular challenges for those giving birth in the state. With support from NIRH, SISTA Fire will continue leading a community accountability process with Women and Infants Hospital in Providence and partnering with local doula-of-colors and Umoja Nia Collective to build a network of doulas and birth workers of color.  SISTA Fire will also continue their work with the Rhode Island Department of Health to ensure that the state’s health care strategies and policies center the experiences of Black womxn.
