NIRH is working with the California Coalition for Women Prisoners (CCWP) to pass legislation that includes compensation for survivors of forced sterilization who were incarcerated between 2006-2010. This legislation would be precedent-setting not only in California but across the country -- discouraging similarly invasive and irreparably harmful practices in prisons and detention centers. This year in partnership with NIRH, the coalition is seeking to run a broad educational campaign to expand and strengthen their supporter base in order to build power at the legislature and pass this critical law. Legislation that provides compensation, recognition, and notification to survivors of coercive reproductive procedures would provide some tangible redress for the terrible harm that has been done to the people impacted and would advance reproductive justice in California.
