New Mexico

American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico (ACLU-NM), Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM), and Bold Futures successfully engaged in strategic advocacy and education to improve the accessibility of LARC in New Mexico. In 2019, the coalition worked to address inadequate payment, a known barrier to provision, by securing increased Medicaid reimbursement rates for LARC insertion and removal twice in the span of a year. They also created a sustainable plan for training providers on addressing implicit bias and preventing reproductive coercion. NIRH has supported this work since 2016.

ACLU-NM worked as part of a cohort of organizations in New Mexico on a long-term initiative to develop and advance an abortion rights vision, engage a new and broad base of supporters, and reduce shame and stigma by publicly promoting the affirmative value of abortion in women's lives.
