Statement from National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) President Andrea Miller
A second sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh amplifies the urgent call for him to withdraw his nomination to the Supreme Court. NIRH opposed his nomination based on his judicial record alone, and the accumulating accusations against him are nothing short of appalling.
Sexual violence must be taken seriously, always. It is unacceptable to consider confirming someone with a demonstrated history of antipathy toward women’s safety and autonomy for a lifetime appointment on the nation’s highest court.
Sexual assault and restricting reproductive rights have the same root cause: the desire to control women and their bodies, which are in direct opposition to the values and work of NIRH. Our mission to advance reproductive freedom is based on trusting women, always.
We believe the survivors of sexual assault and harassment, and support survivors’ decisions regarding how and when to tell their stories. We believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez.
