Background

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation and its coalition partners will host a Regional Summit in Denver, CO in September 2009.

The Rocky Mountain West is a region with continuously strong population growth and increasing reproductive health needs. For example, in Denver, 27% of mothers fail to seek prenatal care until after their first trimester and approximately 10% of babies are born prematurely.

New Mexico ranks second in the nation for teen births. In Montana, despite having a pro-choice governor, the majority of counties (91%) have no abortion provider.

Texas ranks number three in teen pregnancy, 45th for access to family planning and 50th for non-elderly women with health insurance.

Coalition partners for the summit include Planned Parenthood of Rocky Mountains, League of Women Voters, Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR), ACLU of Colorado, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), and Colorado Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
