PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The National Institute for Reproductive Health (National Institute) is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide assistance for our programs. The National Institute is an innovation institute for state and local organizations working on reproductive health issues. We offer strategic guidance, hands-on support and funding to help state and local leaders remove barriers to health care, win public battles and change public policies. Together, we are helping women in communities all across the country gain access to the full range of quality reproductive health care options, the freedom to exercise their reproductive rights and the opportunity to have healthy pregnancies. The National Institute is affiliated with NARAL Pro-Choice New York, which works in New York State to elect pro-choice candidates and change public policy. For additional information, please visit www.nirhealth.org.
The National Institute currently has six program areas:
- The Contraception Access Program works with organizations to educate people about the role of contraceptives in protecting health and preventing unwanted pregnancies so that no one is denied the contraception they need due to ideological restrictions, lack of information or inability to pay;
- The Urban Initiative for Reproductive Health brings together mayors, city and county leaders, public health officials and reproductive health advocates from all across the nation to create and promote real policy solutions to address reproductive health problems facing cities across the nation;
- The Low-Income Access Program promotes and protects public funding for reproductive health care, so that low-income people have equal access to the care they need, and works to ensure access and availability of emergency contraception, especially among low-income populations;
- The Residency Training Initiative addresses an acute shortage of doctors trained in performing abortions by offering medical residents training in abortion procedures and miscarriage management;
- The Teen Outreach Reproductive CHallenge (TORCH) empowers teenagers to educate themselves, their peers and health care professionals about sexual health and reproductive rights issues; and,
- The Winning Message Education Project develops targeted pro-choice messages and campaigns to defeat anti-choice politicians and referendums across the nation.
